Wilbraham Hampden Softball Program Descriptions:

8U

8U is a coach-pitch, non-competitive, instructional level program designed to introduce players to the game of softball.  Players will build on what they learned in Tee Ball. Our focus is to teach the fundamentals of softball, while maintaining a fun and rewarding experience for all players.

We welcome every level of player, as this level focuses on the fundamentals of softball.
U8 typically practices once per week, with 1 game on the weekend.

8U Players should have the following items:

  • Softball Glove
  • Fielder's Mask
  • Cleats
  • Bat
  • Batting Helmet

10U
10u is more competitive than 8U. 10u continues to build on the fundamentals of softball, while maintaining a fun, rewarding experience for all players. 
Important to note that there are some changes your player will see when moving up. 10u is player pitch, the field is slightly bigger, the balls go up to an 11 inch outdoor ball, and there will be an umpire behind home plate.

10u teams play a minimum of 12 games from Mid-April to Mid-June for the regular season with playoffs beginning at the end of June. 
There are usually 2 practices per week and 1 game on the weekend

 

All-Stars: The District Tournament All-Stars immediately follows the regular season playoffs and is high level tournament play. Coaches will select 12 players from the regular season to participate in the District Tournament. Tournament play is typically the last two weeks of June. Teams that advanced past the District 2 Tournament will continue playing after July 4th against teams throughout the state, competing for the Little League State Championship.

10U players should have:

  • Softball Glove
  • Fielder's Mask
  • Cleats
  • Bat
  • Batting Helmet

12U

There are a few notable changes your player will see when moving up to 12u. The 12U field is slightly bigger, balls are 12 inches, and there may be a field umpire in addition to the home plate umpire. There are also a few rule changes that players will learn about at the 12U level, such as Drop 3rd Strike and In-Field Fly Rule.

Teams play a minimum of 12 games from Mid-April to Mid-June for the regular season with playoffs beginning at the end of June. 

There are usually 2 practices per week and 1-2 games on the weekend.

14U

The goal of 14u is to prepare players for high school softball. 


Teams play a minimum of 12 games from Mid-April to Mid-June for the regular season with playoffs beginning the end of June. 
There are 2 practices per week and 1-2 games on the weekend.
